Recent reviewsWWBD--What Would Buffy Do?
Posted : 3 days, 6 hours ago on 10 May 2008 08:10
(A review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete First Season)I actually was late in getting into this series. I had never watched a show of Buffy until after it had ended its run on TV. I just could not imagine how a show called "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" could possibly be any good plus I hated the movie that preceded. I could not have been more wrong. Highly recommend this series. This is the weakest season out of the entire Buffy series. Season 1 is still fun to watch but lacks the depth that is added to future seasons. Luckily, the season 2 that follows is one of the best seasons of the series. Season 1 is a shorter season than the ones that follow as well. Even with this weaker season...it is still contains the witty banter that exists throughout the series and is highly enjoyable...as well as an introduction of the main characters. One of the things that made this show great was getting to watch the evolution of each character through the later seasons. Buffy, Willow, Xander each become more grown up and powerful in their own ways as each season passes. Each imperfect but each selfless in their quest to fight the big baddies. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Nothing Special....

(A review of Split Second)This is not a terrible book but not one that I feel the need to read again. A basic formulaic "fluff" thriller. Nothing really stands out about this book that separates it from any other mass marketed fiction. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
About 200 pages to long....

(A review of Inkheart)What do I say about this book...I didn't hate it...definitely not the worst book I have ever read...but didn't really like it either. The premise of the book is quite good but it just seemed that things just dragged on and on...the same sub plots just repeating themselves. I had to struggle to finish this book as it got to a point where I just really did not care what happened. I think this book could have easily fit in about 300 pages and probably would have been a lot better if it had some scenes taken out...instead of a scene of done that already but let's do it again!! I think it only deserves 5 out of 10. The reason being that I did enjoy the parts of the book that brought in other characters from other popular books such as Peter Pan or Treasure Island and it was nice to read a book with characters that love to read themselves. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
Getting better but still in need of impr

(A review of Star Trek Voyager - The Complete Second Season)The second season of Star Trek: Voyager is another fairly weak season compared to future seasons of Voyager. It is certainly an improvement over the first season but it is still trying to find its way of what it would become. This second season is where the series really concentrates on trying to create a story arc. Although a fair attempt at trying to create a story arc...it pretty much failed in this season. The story arc this season continues on with the Kazon creating problems with Voyager. The Kazon story line starts to grow old in this season. They were extremely overused in the story arc and many of the shows lost their "freshness". Luckily, things start moving in a new direction next season and ongoing. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
A Weak Season for a Strong Series...

(A review of Star Trek Voyager - The Complete First Season)This is one of the weaker seasons of Star Trek Voyager. It is pretty obvious that in this first season that the producers were trying to figure out what they were going to do with the show and what it was to become. They stole a lot of plots and there are a lot of similarities to The Next Generation in many of the shows in this season. In the next seasons to come Voyager will start to separate from the other Star Trek series and finally become its own and is much improved. Although this is a weak season....it is still better than half the stuff on TV today...I recommend it... 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Here's Johnny...at his worst....

(A review of Secret Window)As a big Johnny Depp fan it pains me to say this...but this movie is awful. I would rate this as one of his worst...second to The Astronaut's Wife I thought the first hour was not to bad but when it tried to bring out the big old "Fight Club" spin to it ...the way the story was presented at that point was poorly executed and was almost laughable. Even Johnny Depp could not save this film. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Cheese factor is just right...

(A review of Cleopatra 2525 - Complete Series)I absolutely love TV shows with a high cheese factor. This show is about an exotic dancer who goes in for a boob job and wakes up over 500 years in the future after being cryogenically frozen due to the boob job going awry. The world is a much different place in 2525 and now she has to work with her team of new friends in trying to save the world. You cannot get much cheesier than that. The great thing about this show is that it understands what it is and plays to its silliness. It is a purposely funny show. It is definitely not for everyone...especially for those that take things to seriously...but for those with an open mind it can be an enjoyable show. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Guilty Pleasure

(A review of Mannequin)This is one of my guilty pleasure movies. I know it is bad for me, but I can't help but enjoy it. From a quality standpoint this is a terrible movie...but it does have an endearing quality about it. I can't help but love the character of Hollywood played by Meshach Taylor and the antics of James Spader. Who doesn't love James Spader? 0 comments, Reply to this entry
A Thriller That Is Not So Thrilling.

(A review of The Brave One)This movie was big let down for me. I love Jodie Foster and almost every movie she has been in. So I expected this one to be no different. Well, sorry to Jodie, this movie was not a good choice for her. This is a mess of a movie. A radio personality becomes a victim of a violent crime and slowly falls into a bit of madness and decides to rid the streets of its criminals. As I was watching this movie...I kept thinking how this movie could end up well for Jodie Foster's character...will she be killed? Will she end up killing herself? Will she run off somewhere? But then I realized I did not really care what happened to her character. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Teenage adventure...Indiana Jones style
Posted : 1 month ago on 12 April 2008 03:49
(A review of The Goonies)I consider this the Indiana Jones for teenagers. I have watched this movie at least a half dozen times over the years and I never tire of watching it. Even as an adult I still enjoy it. Richard Donner did a fantastic job directing this film...heck he was even able to get Corey Feldman to act halfway decently in this film. That deserves an award upon itself. This is a movie to add to your DVD collection ...has a high repeat viewing factor. Not a movie you purchase that just sits on your shelf never being seen again. 0 comments, Reply to this entry

I have many more reviews to come. In fact I want to write reviews for all the movies I've ever seen which is quite a lot.
Lol. An Aussie Roger Ebert. I'll try not to be as old man-ish.
